Rebeka & Shikara
A Love That Blooms in Authenticity
Some love stories feel fated — as though the universe quietly conspired to bring two souls together at just the right moment.
Rebekah and Shikara’s story is one of courage, self-discovery, and the beauty of living authentically.
Their journey reminds us that love, in its truest form, is both soft and powerful — a celebration of who we are and who we choose, without apology.
A Journey to Self and to Love
Rebekah grew up in a deeply religious household — just her and her mum. The beliefs she was raised with were strict, and the idea of going against God’s word carried a constant fear of punishment.
“It scared me anytime I did even the tiniest thing that went against the Bible.”
Despite those restrictions, glimpses of freedom always found their way in. Friends outside the faith introduced her to the world she’d been missing — until she was told she could no longer see them because they were “corrupting her thinking.”
Through it all, dance became her sanctuary. For nearly sixteen years, she was a competitive dancer — a space where she could move, breathe, and think freely.
“When I danced, I was free. It was the only time I could truly be myself.”
Looking back, Rebekah acknowledges that while her upbringing was strict, it gave her perspective.
“It kept me out of trouble and made me mature quickly. And it taught me to hold deep respect for the things that matter — like love, honesty, and commitment.”
From her childhood faith, Rebekah carried forward one powerful belief: that marriage is sacred.“Not the whole ‘it’s Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve,’” she laughs, “but the idea that marriage should be treated with love and respect. It’s not something you do to show off — it’s a promise.”
She always vowed to be absolutely certain of the person she wanted to marry.
“I don’t believe in divorce — though I have nothing against anyone who does — it’s just my personal belief. So when I asked my beautiful now-wife to marry me, I knew I wanted the rest of my life with her. She already knew how deeply I felt about that, and she said yes knowing exactly who I am.”
Fate Steps In
“We always say it was truly fate.”
Rebekah smiles as she recalls how their paths crossed.
“I was on a few dating apps, but I kept matching only with guys (meh), and I was getting so tired of it. I was about to delete the apps for good when, just as my finger hovered over one of them, a notification popped up — someone had matched with me.”
Her gut told her to click — and she’s forever glad she did.
“That someone was my forever.”
When Shikara came over for their first date, she never left.
“We stayed up talking until 5 a.m. It felt like catching up with an old friend — effortless, warm, and completely right.”
The Proposal
Rebekah laughs as she recalls the chaos of the most important question of her life.
“I had it all planned in my head — and being ADHD, when things don’t go exactly to plan, I panic!”
“On January 20th, 2025, I took Shikara on a picnic by the water. I’d made a playlist, and there was one song I’d chosen for the moment I was going to propose. As it got closer, I started shaking — I was so nervous.”
When the song began, Rebekah asked Shikara to sit beside her and take in the view.
“Silly me — I’d forgotten to put the ring in my pocket! It was still in the bag. So, to distract her, I kissed her. I told her how amazing she is, how she’s turned my life around, and how she’s helped me truly discover who I am. Then I asked her to marry me.”
Shikara, stunned, said “Wait, what?” — and as soon as Rebekah pulled out the ring, she immediately said yes and burst into tears.
A Day to Remember
“Honestly, I loved everything about our wedding. It’s so hard to pick a favourite moment.”
From seeing her beautiful wife walking down the aisle, to hearing her vows, signing the paperwork, and finally hearing ‘Mrs & Mrs Pomery’ for the first time — every second felt magical.
“But if I had to pick one, it would be seeing my beautiful wife walking toward me in her gorgeous suit, knowing that this was it — this was my forever person.”
Finding the Right Fit
When it came to finding their wedding attire, Both brides wore stunning custom suits designed by The Bridal Couturier. Rebekah says the process was effortless.
“Not at all difficult — from the very first moment I spoke to Kayleigh, I knew she would bring our vision to life. She exceeded every expectation.”
A Story Sewn in Beads
“We both felt far more comfortable in suits than in dresses — it just felt like us.”
Designer and owner of The bridal Couturier Kayleigh added a deeply personal touch with beading on Rebekah’s collar — a design that told her life story.
“The beading starts small, representing childhood. Then it grows into what I call the ‘chaotic area,’ where I was figuring out who I am — struggling, hiding parts of myself to please others. Then it breaks free, it rains, and the flowers bloom as I find myself and the person I’m meant to spend my forever with.”
The couple adored the symbolism so much that they plan to have their suits framed.
“We absolutely love them — they’re part of our story now. On our wedding day, we felt confident, romantic, empowered, and truly beautiful.”
Words of Wisdom
“If you’re struggling to find the right attire, keep searching — don’t give up. Small businesses are often the best because they pour so much heart into what they do.”
Her biggest piece of advice for future couples?
“Don’t care what anyone else says! It’s your wedding — do what feels right for you and your partner. The day goes by so quickly, so soak up every moment, be present, and spend it with your person. It’s worth every second.”
