Ashlee (No Shit Bits) Bunney

The brand, the myth, the legend, the modest.

Not only am I a wedding celebrant, I’m also an MC, presenter, crazy cat lady, social media menace, & self-proclaimed Household Name.

I guarantee No Shit Bits, by helping couples create a ceremony that f*cks off solemnity & focuses on the funny nuances of their nuptials.

After 30+ years of performing, public speaking, enjoying the written word, & honing my inappropriate sense of humour, becoming a celebrant was a natural progression.

There is nothing more humbling than couples choosing me to be The One to create & execute a ceremony that people will still be frothing over yonks after; I get off on putting a rocket up what people traditionally expect from a wedding.

Because my style is… unique, I really only attract people who are quirky loose units themselves. They’re bold, they’re colourful, they’re unapologetically themselves, & they want their hoedown to truly reflect them.

Approximately 25% of my legends are LGBTQIA+. Which, like, I do notice, especially because it’s part of my process to ask how they identify & how they want to be referred to, but otherwise it has no bearing on our journey together.

From the moment I launched my business I made sure every touchpoint was as inclusive as possible. You won’t hear “Good afternoon, ladies & gentlemen”, or automatically referring to you as a “bride” or “groom” round ‘ere!

Recently I got banned from a local Perth wedding group on Facebook, calling to #DisruptTheDefault around gendered language, heteronormative structures, & internalised misogyny in the wedding industry.

Because my post was deemed inappropriate for that forum, it was suggested I take my message to my own platforms. I’m proud to say what I posted, & the way I posted it, ruffled even more feathers ha.

Check out the article PerthNow posted off the back of my flap slappin.

I believe that we can, and need to, do better. Marriage equality was legalised in 2017, but unfortunately the heteronormative structures still remain, and LGBTQIA+ couples are still being made to feel excluded and disregarded.

I’m a cis, heterosexual woman, & therefore will never understand what it’s like to feel disregarded in this way.

But I will always do my best to be a safe, welcoming space who brings consciousness to an industry that still has work to do regarding inclusivity.

Here’s my linkies, if you want to check me out, Meoww ❤️
